Church Committees
St. Thomas' Church carries out the ministry of Jesus Christ in part through the various committees it has formed. They range from operational to outreach. All play a critical role in maintaining St. Thomas' Church. A brief discussion of the various ministry groups at St. George's follows below.
Finance and Investments Committee
The Finance and Investment Committee supports St. Thomas' Church by caring for what has been entrusted to us by the congregation to fulfill our mission. We are able to give church members a clear picture of our financial status, investments and distribution of their contributions. Read More
Stewardship Committee
The mission of the Stewardship Committee of St. Thomas' Church is to further the mission of our Parish community by fostering an awareness of God’s abundant blessings in the gifts He has given each of us; and encouraging and enabling our parishioners to respond to God’s love by sharing these gifts of time, talent and treasures freely. Building & Grounds Committee
The purpose of the Building & Grounds Committee of St. Thomas' Church includes the the following responsibilities:
- Maintenance and security of the grounds, buildings, and all equipment, except for office equipment, computer systems, and media/sound systems. Read More
Outreach Committee
The St. Thomas' Church Outreach Committee coordinates & promotes parish activities that offer care to those in need outside of the St. Thomas' community. The committee's responsibilities include the distribution & stewardship of financial contributions in line with the vestry-allocated annual budget & designation of recipient organizations for the Christmas & Easter plate offerings. Christian Foundation & Formation Committee
Christian Formation is a lifelong process the purpose of which is to support the people of God as they seek to live out the Baptismal Covenant and to express their unique calling as followers of Jesus Christ. One of the greatest challenges for the leadership of the Church is the empowerment of all Christians through both formal and informal learning opportunities and experiences. Read More
Lay Ministry Committee
The Book of Common Prayer defines four orders of ministers in the Church: lay persons, bishops, priests, and deacons. Baptism into the Covenant Community of Jesus Christ is the primary prerequisite for any ministry in the Church. Ministry in the Church has usually involved some prior training, an examination of life and ability, and a setting apart, or an expression of approval, of the person by the people, the clergy, and the bishop. Music Committee
The St. Thomas' Church Music Committee supports the mission of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church by developing and maintaining music programs and events that glorify God, serve the spiritual needs of the congregation and community, and help to foster an understanding and appreciation for the role of music in the church. Fellowship Committee
This committee is responsible for reaching into our church community to support activities that help connect members and friends as they live out their faith as one body in Christ. The committee provides opportunities for fellowship that lead to increased participation in worship and service and thereby strengthen that sense of belonging within the congregation as the family of God. Cemetery Committee
The St. Thomas' Church Cemetery Committee is dedicated to the preservation of the three St. Thomas' Church cemeteries. This includes gathering information by surveying cemeteries in the field and archival research. We are more than happy to share our information with individuals searching for their relatives and help in providing the location of cemeteries for family members. Read More
Environmental Stewardship Committee
The St. Thomas' Church Environmental Stewardship Committee believes creation is a gift of God, and all creation is interconnected. Throughout the Bible, God calls us to be faithful stewards of the earth and all that is in it. We are asked to live responsibly and to respect all of God's creation. Read More
