St. Thomas’ Christian formation is designed to serve parishioners of all ages. Christian formation is coordinated by a full time Minister of Education with input from the Christian Formation Committee.
Children and Youth
Our task at St. Thomas’ is to assist in the spiritual formation of children, to receive and honor the gifts that children bring, to facilitate children’s worship of God and membership in our faith community, and to equip children for ministry through instruction in our shared faith and participation in the church liturgy. Our Church School serves approximately 100 children between birth and confirmation. Teachers are volunteers from the parish, many of whom are parents. Teenagers also assist in the classrooms for younger children. The Church School curriculum is Biblically based and, for the younger ages, incorporates the activity-oriented “Godly Play” method. In general, the Church School seeks to introduce students to Episcopal liturgy, Bible stories, basic tenants of faith, and to support students in their faith formation. Confirmation Class is offered to anyone seeking confirmation. The program includes Bible Study, multiple field trips for exposure to other faiths, and exploration of Episcopal liturgies and rituals.
Adult
Christian Education is life long and St. Thomas’ offers a variety of clergy- led learning opportunities for adults throughout the year. Adult education at St. Thomas' seeks to expand our knowledge of our Christian heritage, to help us embrace our role as Christ's representatives in the world, and to grow spiritually in our commitment to the Living Word of God.
“Episcopal 101” is a class for newcomers, parents of confirmands, adults wishing to be “received”, and anyone interested in a deeper understanding of the Episcopal tradition.
“Education for Ministry (EFM)” is designed for lay people who want to learn more about the Bible and the history and theology of the Church. |
